What is Google Keyword Planner?

On 27 Aug. 2013 Google launch its new Google Keyword Planer Tool in place of Google keyword tool, with the help of GKP we can find the new keyword and ad group ideas, get performance estimate for them to find the bid and budget. But remember one thing for Google planner, if you want to use this tool you must sign in for a Google planner tool, while for Google keyword tool you don’t need to login to your account. Now you’ll have to first insert the Keyword and then you’ll have to enter the bidding amount and your daily budget for a certain keyword and after that you’ll see closer results and CPC rates for that keyword. It’s a kind of tool for advance users and basic users will face some difficulties while using it right now. Because it’s a future keyword researching tool you have to be familiar with that as soon as possible.

How Google Planner Works
First go to your Google adwords account and login and then you will find this keyword planner tool under Tools and Analysis tab, click that tab and in the list of options click “Keyword Planner”, and then you’ll see following three options:

•    Search for Keyword and ad group ideas
•    Enter or Upload keywords to see how they perform
•    Multiple keyword lists

1. Search for keywords and ad group ideas – In this option you can find all the related keywords ideas. First search the desired keyword and then find a list of keyword group ideas with average CPC.

 2. Enter or Upload keywords to see how they perform - if you want to just search a single keyword and its monthly searches etc then use the second option. You can just enter your keyword and find the estimated CPC and searches etc upon entering a bidding amount and daily budget for that keyword by yourself in the top 2 text fields. You can also upload keywords if you have them in a text file.

3. Multiple keyword lists
- And for multiple keywords you can always use the last option, which is rarely used.

Some Changes in the data column – when you’ll use the Google Keyword planner you’ll see some changes on data column than those that you were used to seeing in Google Keyword Tool.

1. Local monthly searches and global monthly searches: These two columns have been replaced by the "Average monthly searches" column, simplifying the search volume data you can get. The average monthly search volume is specific to your targeting settings, and you can get data for an entire country or individual cities and regions within a country. Note that you can still get global monthly search data by targeting all locations.

2. Ad share: This column is being replaced with a new column called ad impression share to help you look for potential impressions.

3. Google Search Network:
This column has been replaced by the network option within the targeting settings. To get data for the entire Search Network, select the "Google and search partners" targeting option.

4. Approx. CPC (Search): This column has been replaced by the "Avg. CPC" column. You'll get more accurate data in the average cost-per-click column than you did in the approximate cost-per-click column.

5. Local search trends: This column doesn't appear in the Keyword Planner interface. However, you can still get search volume trends by hovering over the icon in the "Avg. monthly searches" column. You can also see these trends segmented by month when you download your historical statistics from Keyword Planner.

6. Extracted from webpage: This column has been removed from the Keyword Planner interface. However, you can still get the webpage the keyword idea came from when you download your historical statistics from Keyword Planner. Note that you'll only get this data when you search for keyword and ad group ideas based on a URL, like a webpage on your website.
